1966 (08) Birds - Phosphor - Stuart - Gull 'Water' Error
Unusual PAIR of Stuart cover.......
Phosphor stamps on boht........
However - on the 'Bradford' cover - the top left stamp has the Gull 'Water' Error..
To explain - This relates to the ‘Black-Headed Gull (the top left stamp in the block of four) – The Gull is supposed to be floating in a particular ‘Green’ looking water…. But we have discovered covers where the Gull is sitting in much more of a ‘Blue’ water…. When you have the covers in front of you – the difference is quite distinctive…
When we look at the Robin stamp underneath the Gull stamp, we note that the Green branch also doesn’t have the same ‘solidity’ that it has on a ‘normal’ cover, so we are assuming there was a problem with the green colour, possibly some sheets didn’t get all the coatings it was supposed to have at the printers… so - it’s not a ‘missing colour’, more of a shading variety, but it still makes something different for some collectors…
